An assisted living center that serves residents with memory problems has been approved.

On Thursday, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved the Nauvoo Assisted Living center on a 2.06-acre lot off Valerie and Christina streets. The center, commissioners heard, will consist of two 9,000-square-foot buildings. Each building will be single story and should give the appearance of being large single-family homes, blending into the existing neighborhood to the east, the developer said.

Access to the new center will be through the residential neighborhood, with all traffic coming from Valerie Street. A gated emergency access entrance will be created on Christina Street.

City Planner Laura Blakeman said the center will have 46 beds in 32 rooms.
