Brotherton making comeback after 10 years out

Bill Brotherton and Sen. Robert Meza piled into Brotherton’s maroon Saturn and drove west from their campaign headquarters to Phoenix’s Alhambra neighborhood in Legislative District 30, where they planned to collect signatures for several initiatives.
As Brotherton, 55, drove past Grand Canyon University, which spans several blocks on Camelback Road, he recalled how Grand Canyon was smaller than Alhambra High School when he graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in history. It was called Grand Canyon College back then and only a handful of the original buildings still exist, he said.
Driving north on 35th Avenue, he pointed to the Streets of New York pizza shop on the corner of Northern Avenue where he worked for five years as a high school student. He drove past his parents’ home and the high school he attended.
A third generation Arizonan, Brotherton has lived in LD30 for 44 years. It’s where he grew up, where he raised his own two children, and where his parents still live.
