The former Barneys New York at Scottsdale Fashion Square will open as a co-working space in 2019, an option that Macerich is rolling out at several of its malls nationwide.
Industrious, a Manhattan-based company with 50 shared work spaces in 33 cities, will occupy the two stories once splashed with high-end fashion and jewelry. Barneys has been vacant since it closed its only Arizona location in 2016 after a six-year run.
The co-working space will cover about 33,000 square feet at the mall’s east corner near Scottsdale and Camelback roads.
Kim Choukalas, vice president of leasing for Macerich, said the mall owner reevaluated uses for one of the “premium corners” in Arizona.
