Jeff Flake rebukes Jimmy Carter for calling Trump’s presidency illegitimate

Former Sen. Jeff Flake ignited a Twitter firestorm on Friday when he rebuked former President Jimmy Carter for calling President Donald Trump’s presidency illegitimate.

Speaking at the Carter Center in Virginia earlier in the day, Carter said Russian interference in the 2016 election put Trump in office.

“I think the interference … if fully investigated would show that Trump actually didn’t win the election in 2016,” Carter said. 

On Twitter, Flake, a former Republican senator from Arizona known for his frequent criticism of Trump, chided the former president for his remarks.
