The 101 of polo and party for The Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships November 2nd

Returning for its 9th year at WestWorld of Scottsdale on November 2nd is The Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships. For those who may only be familiar with the sport from scenes in Pretty Woman, we’ve got the scoop for better understanding the game… and how to best enjoy the upcoming Scottsdale Polo Party which is just weeks away.

The Basics of Polo:

How does the game work? So here’s the deal: players mount up on horses, traditionally four per team, and by using a mallet they move a small white ball down the field until a team scores. This occurs for four periods of play, each seven minutes long. The highest scoring team wins!

Polo Terminology:

Sound like a pro in front of your friends while watching the matches on November 2nd with such polo jargon as:

Chukker – one of the periods of play. There are four in a polo match.

Mount – a polo pony.

First Drop – the ball pitch onto the field that starts the play of the game.

Handicap – the skill level of a polo player or team.

Divot – the turf holes that have been kicked up by the horses.

Sideboard – vertical boards lining the field that create the space of play.

THE PARTY

So here is how to put some of that knowledge into action on November 2nd. From VIP tents to many General Admission experiences on site, there is a spot for everyone.

The Barrett-Jackson Champagne and Jazz Lounge – complimentary mimosas for each ticket, and they’re bottomless through half-time of the first match. Plus enjoy bottomless french fries with your bubbles with a live Jazz band entertaining the tent throughout the day.

The Molina Fine Jewelers and Players VIP Tent – enjoy complimentary food and cocktails all day and exclusive access to players in The Polo Party’s most popular tent.

PRIME: A Luxury tent experience by Steak 44, Neiman Marcus, Barrett-Jackson & Bentley Scottsdale – the most exclusive tent on site and limited to only 250 guests, this tent offers complimentary cocktails and full catering by Steak 44 located at center-field.

Sideline Parking– much like tailgating, but directly on the field. Guests will drive into the event and line the field of play and enjoy their own experience of lawn chairs, pop up tents, etc. Food is permitted and a convenient cash bar is available at center-field.

General Admission – General Admission tickets include access into many tents on site on a first come basis including Riot House, Wasted Grain, Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row, Talking Stick Rooftop Bar, the Sanderson Lincoln Black Label Lounge, and more.

All VIP table purchases include a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne for the table. Scottsdale Polo Party tickets in all categories are on sale now.
