Tiny homes have grown in popularity among consumers who either want to simplify their life or need a smaller abode for affordability’s sake. Regardless of circumstance, apartments are getting smaller, and it’s occurring even as rents are rising, according to a new analysis from Apartment Guide, a real estate listing site.

Just how tiny are some of these homes? Apartment Guide analyzed the size of apartments across 200,000 listings nationwide. They identified Ferrelview, Mo., a suburb of Kansas City, as having the smallest average studio homes among 50 markets tracked. The average studio in Ferrelview averages 342 square feet. Nationwide, the average studio size is 530 square feet, Apartment Guide notes. The national average rent for a studio is $1,065.
