Independent businessman Tom Lewellen enters race for Congress

A technology industry executive with a background in economics is jumping into the race to represent the northeast Valley in Congress.

Tom Lewellen is running as an independent in his effort to unseat Rep. David Schweikert, a five-term Republican who is currently facing a House Ethics Committee investigation into alleged misspending by his office and his campaign.

At least four Democrats have announced they are also running for the Scottsdale-based 6th Congressional District seat.

Lewellen hopes to appeal to voters who feel disconnected from both political parties.
