Avondale park got a $19M revamp. Here’s what to expect

Avondale residents can get a look at the expanded Festival Field Park on Saturday.

The city spent $19 million on renovations and a 30-acre expansion that more than doubled the size of the park.

Festival Fields Park, just southeast of Central Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, runs along the Agua Fria River, which flows south and merges with the Gila River near the ISM Raceway. The park has long been planned as a pilot for the West Valley’s El Rio plan, which aims to add recreation and light development along the Gila River.

The El Rio plans call for using existing trails and bike paths headed south to connect the park to the Gila River.
