The Surprise City Council voted unanimously to terminate City Attorney Michael Bailey’s contract Friday night.
Council members said the choice to part ways with Bailey came after negotiations to renew his employment contract could not “be successfully concluded,” according to a release.
Bailey’s contract was last approved in 2007 and needed to be reworked, said Councilman Richard Alton. Bailey and the council were on two different pages regarding the city attorney’s compensation, he said.
Bailey’s salary was $160,269 this year.
