Former Scottsdale City Councilman Bob Littlefield has filed papers to run for mayor in this year’s election. Littlefield is the husband of Scottsdale City Councilwoman Kathy Littlefield. He unsuccessfully ran for more against Mayor Jim Lane in 2016.
Bob Littlefield is also one of the leading slow-growth advocates in Scottsdale opposing new real estate developments, especially in the Old Town area.
Lane is term-limited and Scottsdale City Councilwomen Virginia Korte and Suzanne Klapp have already launched their mayoral campaigns. Littlefield also announced his 2020 run for mayor on his campaign website.
Here is his statement:
“Today I filed the paperwork to run for mayor in the upcoming city election!
In the last three years, the voters of Scottsdale have organized to protect the Preserve from commercial development, elected citizen-friendly City Council candidates by unprecedented margins and fought toxic overdevelopment in Downtown. I am proud to have been a part of those efforts.
This level of activism makes it clear Scottsdale citizens want a change from the current policy of toxic overdevelopment pursued by our current City Council majority, including by the two currently announced candidates for Mayor. I am running to give voters a resident-friendly alternative for Mayor who will lead Scottsdale to grow and evolve in a way that preserves our special character and high quality of life.”
