Renovating the Tempe City Council chambers took longer than planned and cost a bit more than expected, but the big reveal will come later this month.
The council has met at the Tempe History Museum during construction. City officials hoped to be back in the chambers for Thursday’s council meeting but the space wasn’t quite ready, a city spokeswoman, said.
The public will get its first opportunity to see the remodeled chambers during an open house on Feb. 24.
The garden-level council chambers, just below street level down a flight of stairs or a nearby ramp, had remained unchanged since a late 1980s renovation.
