The city of Mesa is considering development plans for an infill apartment complex with offices on 1.13 acres at Broadway Road and Pioneer south of Main Street and the core of downtown Mesa.

Foster Arizona, a nonprofit that works with foster kids as well as young adults transitioning out of the foster care system, wants to build 9 apartments and will also have administrative offices at the project.

The city of Mesa is being asked to approve a development incentive permit for the Foster Arizona project. That is a program aimed at encouraging development on smaller and underutilized properties. The program allows for some approved deviations from the city’s existing development and zoning rules.

Plans call for a two-story office building as well as apartments to built on the site. Older existing structures on the property will be torn down, according to city documents.
