Big bucks spent in Southbridge referendum fight

Petition circulators and lawyers were the major beneficiaries of the Southbridge Two saga that saw opposing PACs dump nearly $500,000 into the battle over the future of 5th Avenue.

Campaign finance reports show money flowed in the battle, which began after Scottsdale City Council narrowly approved the 10-acre Southbridge Two redevelopment on Dec. 4.

The Committee for the Preservation of Old Town Scottsdale promptly pursued a referendum drive to put the development before voters in November.
