Researchers propose health safety grading system for restaurants amid COVID

With restaurants initially shuttering amid the coronavirus pandemic — and then reopening, despite spiking cases — Rice University Texas Policy Lab epidemiologists in Houston are proposing creating a Covid-19 grading system akin to health department inspections.

In a paper authored by E. Susan Amirian, Snejana Nihtianova and Megan Rafferty, the authors propose several different methods the grading system could take. In New York City and Los Angeles, food establishments have letter-based safety grading systems.
