Environmental, community groups petition Supreme Court to stop border wall construction

Fresh off their legal victory in the lower courts, a collective of environmental and community groups along the U.S.-Mexico border petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to lift a stay issued last year that allowed President Donald Trump’s administration to continue building border barriers. 

The construction was allowed despite another ruling that found the use of military funds for that purpose was unlawful. 

Attorneys for the Sierra Club, one of the country’s leading conservation groups, and the Southern Border Communities Coalition, which brings together more than 60 community and advocacy groups spanning the U.S.-Mexico border, filed the motion Wednesday in the case Sierra Club vs. Trump.
