Arizona’s U.S. senators said the nation’s Nov. 3 election should proceed without delay, emphatically disagreeing with President Donald Trump’s suggestion Thursday that voting should be postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The idea drew bipartisan criticism from lawmakers on Capitol Hill, and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., and Sen. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., swiftly signaled their disagreement with Trump.
“The election will be held on Election Day,” Sinema told The Arizona Republic. She previously has said she largely ignores Trump’s “incendiary” social media posts.
“Sen. McSally strongly believes the election should and will occur on time just like every election in our nation’s history,” said Caroline Anderegg, spokeswoman for McSally’s 2020 election campaign.
