The city of Tempe is in line for a $584,886 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to look at the impact of heat on the health of kids.
The effort aims to adopt best practices from other countries and cultures to help improve children’s health outcomes in Tempe’s warm climate.
The Tempe City Council is being asked to approve a resolution to accept the grant funds from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The grant period runs from Nov. 1 to April 2023.
Tempe and Arizona State University applied for the grant in May 2020 with a focus on looking at best practices for “heat-related health outcomes” with a focus also on approaches in New Zealand, Morocco, and Columbia. Tempe’s title for this project is ‘Cool Kids, Cool Places, Cool Futures.’
The Tempe City Council will consider the grant acceptance at its meeting on Thursday, Oct. 27.
