Nixon-proof packaging

Rose Law Group Reporter Gripe of the Week

Some of us might remember when over-the-counter drug companies were forced to invent child-proof pill bottle caps to prevent accidental overdoses. I also recall a story about President Nixon’s lack of manual dexterity and being unable to open a child-proof cap.

Whatever the reason — potential lawsuits or just to torture consumers — today’s packaging of many retail products (especially electronics) is so adult proof—such a combination of cardboard and thick plastic covering—should have a special label: Caveat emptor– Is sarcina cannot exsisto patefacio. Translation: Buyer beware—this package cannot be opened.

Sadly, some kids and their parents are today still trying to open Christmas presents.
