Former Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman made his official entry into the 2014 governor’s race.

Hallman, a Republican, has long been an oft-rumored candidate for numerous offices. On Tuesday he filed a campaign committee with the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office for a gubernatorial run.

“We’re off and running,” Hallman said.

The filing comes less than three weeks after Hallman announced that he was considering a run for the Ninth Floor. In a Jan. 11 press statement, Hallman said he would travel throughout the state over the next few months before making a final decision on whether to run for governor. On Saturday, a Hallman-for-governor banner greeted attendees of the Arizona Republican Party’s state committee meeting.

Hallman, who served two terms as mayor and left office last year, said his background would make him well-suited for the office. In addition to his time as mayor, Hallman is an attorney and economist, and served as headmaster of Tempe Preparatory Academy.
