Two new Mohave County supervisors don’t think a county conflict of interest policy proposed by staff meets their campaign goals.
District 5 Supervisor Steven Moss and District 2 Supervisor Hildy Angius promised voters they would require all county employees to disclose conflicts of interest to the county and the public. Angius made it a goal after discovering that the county was leasing space from the spouses of two county employees in 2011.
Moss raised questions Monday about a proposed conflict of interest policy that would not require a county employee or employee’s family member to disclose that they are the landlord or tenant of a company that wants to do business with the county.
County Human Resources Director Ray Osuna explained a landlord/tenant situation would be considered a “remote interest” that would be unlikely to influence the Board’s vote on an issue.
