Customers of water companies Johnson Utilities and Pima Utility Co. are likely to see rate increases as the companies reopen their recent rate cases and begin charging for the income taxes that the owners pay.
The two companies won approval from four of the five utility regulators last week to amend their rates, and other utilities are likely to follow.
In Pima’s case, the difference of including income taxes could add about $2.40 a month to customer bills, according to information from its last rate case.
The issue has been brewing at the Arizona Corporation Commission for the past two years, and the elected officials made a policy shift in February allowing utilities to charge customers for their income-tax expenses.
