Based on an “assumption” that a tract of ranchland northeast of Prescott could one day serve as a youth sports complex, an impact study has predicted that annexing the land into Prescott city limits would translate into upwards of $20 million in new revenues by 2037.
Annexation of 247 acres of James Deep Well Ranch land near the Prescott Airport was the topic of discussion at a City Council public hearing on Tuesday.
Central to the discussion was an economic impact study that consulting firm Applied Economics of Phoenix conducted for the city.
Sarah Murley, a partner with the firm, presented the 30-page study to the council. “In order to look at the impacts on the city’s budget, we needed to make some assumptions about the land use,” she told the council.
One of the assumptions was that the land, which is near the Pioneer Parkway/Willow Creek Road/ Highway 89 intersections, would one day be the site of a youth sports complex that would feature 104 acres of soccer and softball fields, basketball courts, and dormitories.
