The new Pinal County Commission on Trial Court Appointments is to meet next month with five applicants seeking to fill the chair of recently retired Superior Court Judge Boyd Johnson.

The candidates — Henry Gooday Jr., Danielle Harris, James Hazel Jr., Craig Raymond and Lawrence Wharton — are to be reviewed by the commission at a 9 a.m. hearing on Aug. 12 at the Pinal County Courthouse in Florence.

The public may comment at the hearing and attend the candidate interviews.

Gooday, Hazel and Raymond are Republicans, while Harris and Wharton are Democrats. However, only Harris has been a member of the same political party since becoming a registered voter.
