Utility regulator demands solar publicity receipts

By Evan Wyloge | Arizona Capitol Times

Arizona Corporation Commissioner Bob Burns said today he’s “troubled” by the vicious public relations war waged by Arizona’s largest utility provider and the solar industry over future rooftop solar incentives.follow_the_money_small

He wants an accounting of the money that’s been spent so far to see whether customers have been paying for the fight. If so, it could be a violation of the utility’s last rate case settlement.

Burns wants to know how much Arizona Public Service has spent, including lobbying dollars and contributions to organizations that lobby. He also wants to learn the number of salaried employee-hours spent on the utility’s public relations efforts and whether APS plans to recover any of those costs in future energy rate structures.
