The transitions have been made and Coolidge residents have started adapting to the changes, so now city officials have to wait and see what works and what doesn’t in the attempt to eliminate the budget deficit associated with the solid waste services.
Public Works Department Susanna Struble presented the Coolidge City Council with an update on the changes that have been made to how the city handles solid waste. This issue was a hot topic throughout the first seven months of the year, when a few members of the council expressed concerns over a $6 monthly increase in solid waste rates in Coolidge. By raising the rate from $20 to $26, as well as making other changes to the process, the city could begin eliminating the over $300,000 in debt that the solid waste enterprise fund has accumulated over the past few years.
