Hollywood has the Oscars, Broadway has the Tonys and the West Valley has Best of the West.
Those honored this year for their efforts to improve and promote the region include Avondale Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers and Arizona Cardinals President Michael Bidwill, along with the organizers of a West Valley marathon, economic developers in Surprise and educators in the Peoria Unified School District.
The 21st annual Best of the West awards ceremony was held Nov. 7 at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park. The longtime recognition program was created by Westmarc, a coalition of business, government, education and community group leaders that lobbies on behalf of the West Valley.
The recipients of this year’s awards were selected from more than three dozen nominees.
