Canadian company makes offer for Augusta/Rosemont shares

A Canadian mining company, HudBay Minerals, on Sunday announced it was making an offer for all shares of outstanding Augusta Resource stock. Augusta is the parent company of Rosemont Copper, which is seeking a federal permit to mine copper in the eastern foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains southeast of Tucson.

Jan Howard, vice president of Strongpoint Marketing, which handles press for Rosemont, said Augusta is aware of the offer and will consider it at a board meeting this week and that is all the company will say on the matter for the time being.
