While Phoenix has initiated action to address potential development of the site as a housing subdivision, the latest saga of the closed Ahwatukee Lakes Golf Club has homeowners considering an attempt to buy and restore the course.

Save the Lakes, comprising about 130 Ahwatukee Lakes-area homeowners and 90 other concerned people, is kicking off a door-to-door campaign of the 5,073 property owners who have voting rights on covenants, conditions and restrictions. The restrictions must be changed by at least a 51 percent vote before development could take place on the golf course.

Pulte Homes has a memorandum of understanding with course owner Wilson Gee to buy the golf course and build single-family homes. Pulte is completing due diligence prior to closing the purchase.
