Headline writers should use their heads

Headlines are like honey to bees looking for a good news story.

They should be concise and spark interest.

They should not be bait and switch—misrepresent the story.

They should be fair.

I’ll come back to fairness in a moment.

I think many, many people have fond memories of their grandmothers. Grandmothers are special. Given that, does a headline that appeared last week seem fair to you?

“Grandma pleads not guilty in wrong-way wreck”

What the hell does the fact she’s a grandmother have to do with anything?
