Arizona legislature moves put carbon future in the state’s hands

A Senate panel unanimously approved a strike-everything amendment that would provide legislative oversight while allowing a state agency to submit a clean power plan to the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Senate Water and Energy Committee greenlighted a striker of SB1007 Monday to let the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality put together a state plan. A six-person legislative group would review the plan, take public comment, and decide whether submitting the plan to the EPA is in the public interest.
