Light rail extension key to downtown Mesa’s salvation, mayor says

For decades, Mesa Mayor John Giles has watched the rise and fall of Main Street.

He saw its peak, when residents bustled from shop to shop.

He saw its decline, as malls and highways “siphoned the life” out of the downtown corridor.

Now, he hopes to see its salvation.
