Judge snuffs out Yarnell fire homeowners’ lawsuits

A judge has dismissed two lawsuits filed against the state by homeowners whose properties were destroyed by the Yarnell Hill Fire.

The ruling Wednesday in Maricopa County Superior Court agreed with the state’s argument that it did not have a duty to protect the property owners when it undertook the management of the June 2013 fire.

Homeowners say they are disappointed with the ruling and plan to appeal.
