The Surprise City Attorney resigned as four council members seek to place her position under the control of the city manager.
City Attorney Misty Leslie notified the City Council Oct. 19 of her plans to resign, saying she has accepted a new career opportunity. Her last day with the city will be Friday, Oct. 30.
She did not respond to requests for an interview, but she resigned as the council prepares to choose one of two options that would move the city attorney from under the control of the council to the control of the city manager. Some council members have said the realignment isn’t personal, and that they are targeting the position for change and not Leslie.
