Florence cuts use tax, proposes higher spending

The Florence Town Council has decided to lower a seldom-used tax and ask voters permission to spend more.

The town has cut its use tax from 3 percent to 2 percent, making it equal to the town’s sales tax, on the advice of the Arizona Department of Revenue.

The change is retroactive to Sept. 1, 2010, and local taxpayers who paid use tax at 3 percent are entitled to a partial refund. Refunds would be relatively small; the total amount of potential refunds is about $7,700, according to a town staff report.
