Eloy brings back 2% food tax

After two years without it, a tax on food for home-based consumption is back.

In a 4-3 vote Monday, the Eloy City Council approved the implementation of a 2 percent tax on all food purchased in Eloy intended for home-based consumption.

This includes food, beverages, snacks and other edible products bought at local grocers, convenient stores, gas stations, rest stops, vending machines, etc. The tax does not cover restaurants, bars, caterers, movie theaters, bowling alleys or similar businesses that sell food to be eaten while the consumer remains on the premises.
