The Apache Junction City Council has scheduled two public hearings on the extension of the proposed alternative expenditure limitation, also known as home rule.

The meetings will be held during the council’s regular meetings at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, and Tuesday, April 19. All council meetings take place in the Apache Junction City Council Chambers at 300 E. Superstition Blvd.

Home rule allows the city council members to make annual budget decisions for their city “at home” rather than by using the state statute; the latter limits the city to the expenditure of estimated available revenues whether such expenditures are less than or exceed the state-imposed limit, as reported in an earlier story in the Apache Junction/Gold Canyon Independent.
