The man at the forefront of devising new security procedures at the Arizona House of Representatives said Thursday he was not involved in the decision to enact a policy requiring background checks for reporters who wished to cover proceedings from the chamber’s floor, a policy that was put on hold days later.
Bob Robles, the security supervisor at the Arizona House, also said he never intended for those background checks to be required for reporters in order to gain access to the floor. He intended the background checks to allow reporters to bypass what he hoped would be new security screenings put in place at the House entrances.
