Deputy will take over in August, seen as ‘perfect fit’ for top job

City council members unanimously voted Monday to appoint Deputy City Manager Larry Rains as the next city manager.
The council previously held executive sessions to interview Rains shortly after City Manager Jim Thompson announced he would be retiring in August.
Rains is a “perfect fit” for the job, according to Councilman Karl Montoya, who added that Rains’ experience working under Thompson will make the transition smooth and natural.
(Editor’ note: Montoya announced he will seek a third term on the council.)
