A 1954 bank building recognized by historic preservationists as one of Phoenix’s “Midcentury marvels” is threatened with demolition by developers of a downtown Phoenix apartment project slated to bring hundreds of units north of Margaret T. Hance Park.
Tilton Development Company is proposing a six-story complex on First and Willetta streets, across from the Burton Barr Central Library. The roughly 1.6-acre project would include more than 200 units, according to plans filed with the city.
