[EDITORIAL] Our View: Desert Discovery Center in Scottsdale needs a public vote

Editorial: Scottsdale residents have the greatest stake in Desert EGDE, the scaled-back version of an interpretive center. They deserve a vote on it.

A vision to transform Scottsdale’s beloved McDowell Sonoran Preserve into a grand attraction and learning experience may finally get realized.

But the vision that is the Desert Discovery Center is as contested as it is long-running.

modified version of the plan — renamed Desert EDGE — was unveiled this summer and goes before the Scottsdale City Council Tuesday for review and next steps.

Those steps should lead ultimately to a public vote.

Two opposition groups are suing to force such a vote. But the city should act on its own to make it happen.
