Still a decade away from production

The Resolution Copper Project near Superior will get nearly twice the funding in 2018, allowing the company to ramp up work on a second shaft that will be more than a mile deep.
The project is not yet producing copper because it must continue the permitting process with the U.S. Forest Service. In the meantime, Resolution, a joint venture with Rio Tinto and BHP Copper Inc., has been digging shafts and test drilling on the site.
Rio Tinto and BHP approved spending an additional $368 million on the project, the company announced this week. The project has cost $1.8 billion to develop so far.
Project Director Andrew Lye said the new funding approximately doubles what was spent in recent years on the project.
