Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan’s new opponent in the Republican primary could give her a run for her money — literally.
Wealthy businessman Steve Gaynor has officially jumped into the race for secretary of state, the state’s No. 2 elected office and next in line to the governor. Gaynor filed paperwork to run on Thursday.
He enters the race with an apparent financial edge: Gaynor has put $620,000 of his own money into the campaign, according to Brian Seitchik, his political strategist.
Reagan, by comparison, raised nearly $520,000 through the end of last year, her campaign-finance report states. She personally loaned her campaign $85,000.
