April 19 came and went quietly at Phoenix City Hall.
If you’re not one of the five people running for Phoenix mayor, you probably didn’t realize that was notable.
Because Mayor Greg Stanton did not resign from his post Thursday to officially begin his run for Congress, we finally know that the next Phoenix mayoral election will be held in November.
Election waiting game
The date of the election to replace Stanton depends entirely on the date he resigns — which has left City Hall insiders playing guessing games as to when the election will be held.
If he had resigned on April 19 or earlier, the election would have been sometime in August. Because he did not resign, the election will have to wait until November, with a likely runoff election in March.
