Shawn Redd, a former congressional candidate and member of the Navajo Nation, is jumping into Arizona’s U.S. Senate race, this time as a Democrat, to advocate for small businesses and teacher pay.
Redd, who has lived in Arizona for 15 years, finished fifth among six candidates vying for the Republican nomination in Arizona’s northeastern congressional district in 2016.
This year, he joins a Democratic Senate field that already includes U.S. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., and lawyer and community activist Deedra Abboud.
He is an independent business owner on the Navajo Nation, where he primarily offers business advice and works as an advocate for small businesses. He also casts himself as a “watch dog to Native American law enforcement.”
