Plans for a distribution center near the Chandler Airpark were halted Monday as a split Chandler City Council heeded the concerns of residents, including some 300 at the meeting.
Ryan Cos., a Minnesota-based real estate developer, sought to build an industrial and warehouse project on 78 acres near the southeast corner of McQueen and Queen Creek roads. The location is in an area designated as one of the city’s employment hubs.
However, residents in surrounding neighborhoods claimed the development would cause home values to plummet and lead to more traffic and noise.
After more than two hours of discussion, the council voted 5-2 against the preliminary development plan. Vice Mayor Rene Lopez and Councilman Jeremy McClymonds voted for the project.
