Construction has begun on the Point at Eastmark, a Safeway-anchoredshopping center that will be the first major commercial development in Mesa’s Eastmark neighborhood.

The Safeway store is expected to open in late October, and other retail tenants will open around the same time, said Bryan Lamond, director of leasing and acquisitions for Evergreen Devco Inc., the project’s developer.

Evergreen already has commitments from Starbucks, Great Clips, Pet Planet, Dip Nail Bar and Pacific Dental Group to take spaces in the center, and is in negotiations with a breakfast restaurant, Lamond said. The project also includes an end-cap restaurant space.
