New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows Surprise has one of the highest percentage of newer homes in the country.
Financial website 24/7 Wall Street reported Census Bureau figures show 26 cities with at least 65,000 people have more than half of their housing units built since 2000.
Surprise has the fifth-most new homes in the country with 69.4% of them build this century. The nationwide average for new homes is 19%.
Additionally, of homes built before 1960 — the year Surprise incorporated as a town — less than 1% are still left. Census figures show less than 500 of those homes are still remaining.
