Some economists are looking for indicators of a slowing economy as the country enters its longest period of expansion, but Valley cities don’t seem too worried.
Most cities across metro Phoenix are predicting to rake in 3% to 8% more in sales and other taxes this fiscal year compared with last.
Growing sales tax revenue is an indicator of a healthy economy because it signals that consumers are spending money on goods and services.
Of the Valley cities, Scottsdale is predicting the largest revenue growth this fiscal year, which began July 1. The East Valley city expects to bring in 8.4% more in taxes this year, according to budget documents, in part because of a sales tax hike approved by voters last fall.
