Community leaders are gathering signatures on a petition to encourage the Arizona Department of Transportation to follow through on plans for a Gold Canyon bypass to relieve traffic on U.S. 60.
Interested people don’t have to be Gold Canyon residents — nor do they have to go to Gold Canyon — to sign the petition. Anyone who drives the highway may send an email to adobegoldcanyon@gmail.com, giving their name, address and stating they support the bypass, according to Glenn Walp, president of the Association for the Development of a Better Environment.
U.S. 60 in Gold Canyon is subject to heavy traffic almost at all times, including heavy trucks coming back and forth from mines, speeders and red-light runners. Each spring during two months or so of the Arizona Renaissance Festival the congestion is multiplied.
