Gilbert looks at ways to encourage improvements in older neighborhoods, business parks

The town of Gilbert is looking at ways to encourage improvements and renovations in older neighborhoods that might not have homeowners associations as well as older business parks and commercial areas as it updates its Land Development Code.

The Gilbert planners and elected officials are looking at potentially waiving or discounting permits fees for homeowners and property owners upgrading older homes and buildings.

The town could also create a community development or façade improvement grants to help residential and commercial property owners with the costs of renovations.

Gilbert has some older neighborhoods in its northwest area as well as near its restaurant heavy Heritage District. There are also some older commercial areas in northwest areas that straddle the border with Mesa and Chandler.
